| South Berwick – Clifford H. Yerks, 94 died Monday August 12, 2013 at the Monarch Center of Saco in Maine. He was born October 27, 1918 in Astoria, NY the son of Walter and Ethyl (Wagner) Yerks. Clifford was a World War II Army Veteran who participated in the Invasion of Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes, and Northern France. He was awarded the American Campaign medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze service stars with arrow head, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. He worked for many years as a master machinist for Sperry Corp and a foreman for Grumman Aerospace in Long Island, NY. He loved his trips to Atlantic City & Vegas and Hawaii as well as spending time with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn (Komarek) Yerks in 1986, his parents, and three siblings Edwin Yerks, Ellsworth Yerks, and Mildred Lester. Clifford is survived by three children Clifford Yerks and his wife Qun of Ocala, Fl, Marilyn Gelestino and her husband Donald of South Berwick, ME, Robert Yerks and his wife Linda of Plainview, NY, six grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephew. He is loved greatly and will be missed by many. Visiting hours will be Thursday August 15, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM with a service to follow at 8:00 PM at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St. South Berwick, ME. Visiting hours in NY will be held Monday August 19, 2013 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, 655 Old Country Rd. Plainview, NY. A Prayer Service will be held Tuesday August 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home. Burial to follow at 11:30 AM at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd. Calverton, NY. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association 383 US Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to the American Cancer Society, Northern New England, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Ste. 300, Topsham, ME 04086. |
