Coventry – Robert M. Goldberg, 72, of Sandra Circle, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Jane A. (Wowk) Goldberg. Mr. and Mrs. Goldberg celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on October 26, 2008.

Born in Brooklyn, NY he was a son of the late Alexander and Edith (Krichmar) Goldberg and had lived in West Warwick for thirty-two years before moving to Coventry in 2000. Bob was a vice president of the former Old Stone Bank where he worked from 1967 until the banks closing in 1994. He later worked for two years as a consultant for Coopers Waterhouse in Providence and then as a recruiting placement officer for two years for Manpower in Providence before retiring.

He was a member of the Board of Directors for United Cerebral Palsy of RI where he served as co-chairman of fundraising. Bob was an avid sports fan especially of the Boston red Sox and New England Patriots.

Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Jennifer J. Goldberg of Hermosa Beach, CA, his brother Edward H. Goldberg of Sarasota, FL and his sister Judith Goldstein of Hamden, CT.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. WOWK, JANE E., 84, of Liena Rose Way, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Overlook Nursing Home in Pascoag. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter M. Wowk.

Born in Manchester, NH, a daughter of the late Harry G. and Jane J. (Hayes) McNeill, she had lived in Smithfield before moving to Coventry. She worked for many years at Uniroyal, formerly in Woonsocket and for several years for Narragansett Knitting, formerly in Woonsocket.

She is survived by her three daughters Jane A. Goldberg of Coventry, Judith C. Lamoureux of Pascoag and Joan F. Blanchard of North Smithfield and six grandchildren. She was the mother of the late James W. Wowk and sister of the late Mary Melvin.

A private prayer service and inurnment in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter will be held by her family. Information and condolences at

Walter M. Wowk, 83, of Liena Rose Way, Coventry, formerly of North Smithfield, died March 3 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was the beloved husband of Jane E. (McNeill) Wowk; they had been married for 60 years. Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Wasyl and Frances (Serafin) Wowk, he had lived in North Smithfield before moving to Coventry 10 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked in shipping and receiving at Uniroyal in Woonsocket from 1942-1971 and then in maintenance for the state of Rhode Island at the Davies Vocational School in Lincoln for 17 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Fairmount American Legion Post 85 in Woonsocket and faithfully attended the USS Leedstown reunions. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Jane A. Goldberg of Coventry, Judith C. Lamoureux of Pascoag and Joan F. Blanchard of North Smithfield; a sister, Anne Hulse of Seattle, Wash.; and six grandchildren. He was the father of the late James W. Wowk and brother of the late Mary Caron and Michael, Thomas and John Wowk.
